Middletown council to hold first remote meeting today

Middletown City Council will hold its first remote meeting ever via a Zoom video conference when it reconvenes at 5:30 p.m. today.

The council, which is required by the City Charter to meet twice a month, is permitted to hold the remote meetings after Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed House Bill 197 to temporarily amend the state’s open meetings law due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

City spokeswoman Shelby Quinlivan said the city’s technology department will host the meeting via Zoom and that all council members, clerk of council, acting city manager and law director will be on the call. The meeting agenda will be conducted as normal, and will be streaming live on the city’s Facebook and on the city’s YouTube channel, she said.

Citizen comments will be read into the record at the time set in the agenda. Comments can be submitted to Clerk of Council Amy Schenck via email prior to the meeting until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at amys@cityofmiddletown.org.

A recording of the meeting will be on the city’s YouTube channel and website, www.cityofmiddletown.org at the conclusion of the meeting.
