Middletown business closes after more than three decades

A Middletown pharmacy with more than three decades of history in the community shut its doors Tuesday.

A sign posted at The Medicine Shoppe at 1971 Central Ave. directs customers to the nearest Walgreens pharmacy to fill their prescriptions.

The pharmacy has deleted its website and Facebook page.

Calls to the Middletown business are forwarded to a Walgreens on the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and Breiel Boulevard.

We’ve reached out to Walgreens corporate offices to obtain more details but have yet to hear back from them.

The Middletown business was owned by Kevin Berry, who earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati in 1983. He worked for a retail pharmacy for three years before following in his father’s footsteps and starting his own pharmacy on Jan. 6, 1986.

“It was a chance to care for people,” Berry previously told this news outlet. “I just enjoy it.”
