Miami U’s highest-paid employees in 2017: I-Team Payroll Project

Miami University President Gregory Crawford was the university's highest-paid employee in 2017. He was paid more than $100,000 over what his predecessor earned in prior years, according to the I-Team Payroll Project searchable database of public employees.

Crawford was hired in February 2016 to replace former president David Hodge, whose annual pay was $432,022.

In total, Miami University paid 15 people more than $300,000 and 77 people more than $200,000.

An I-Team investigation last year found the ability to cash out unused sick and vacation leave is a rare perk in the private sector, though local governments are on the hook for tens of millions of dollars worth of these payments.

1. Gregory Crawford, president and professor of physics: $586,425

2. Charles Martin, head football coach: $533,785

3. Marc Rubin, interim dean and professor of the Farmer School of Business: $373,890

4. David Creamer, senior vice president of finance and business services: $373,890

5. Enrico Blasi, head ice hockey coach: $366,768

6. Thomas Boulton, professor of finance: $361,110

7. Phyllis Callahan, provost: $357,615

8. Thomas Herbert, senior vice president for university advancement: $353,699

9. Dan Heitger, Deloitte and Touche professor of accountancy: $351,064

10. David Shrider, associate professor of finance: $319,287
