Someone using a torch to burn paint off the exterior of a Middletown home in the 3400 block of Vannest Avenue accidentally caught the building on fire, but city fire crews were able to quickly remove the siding and extinguish the smoldering area behind it.
The fire was reported at 10:28 a.m. Wednesday. There was no significant damage to the building. Firefighters were able to remove the siding with minimal damage to the building.
