Weekend winter storm: Hospitals see sledding, fall injuries

A winter weather blast that left many in the Miami Valley shoveling out from more than a half foot of snow this weekend also had emergency nurses and doctors working to treat those injured from weather-related incidents.

Springfield Regional Medical Center saw 20 people come into the hospital there to be treated for injuries from slips and falls, hospital officials said.

More than 20 people were treated for fall injuries over the weekend at Premier Health’s emergency rooms.

  • Atrium Medical Center treated six patients for weather-related falls.
  • Miami Valley Hospital South saw seven patients come in for injuries related to falls.
  • Miami Valley Hospital North saw eight people treated for injuries due to falls.
  • Upper Valley Medical Center saw a total of 10 patients treated for fall injuries.

Other weather-related injuries seen by local hospital included patients hurt while sledding or skiing.

Premier Health saw at least seven injuries from people sledding and one from a ski-related incident, officials said.

This news agency has reached out to both Dayton Children’s Hospital and Kettering Health Network for similar statistics, however has not heard back.
