Severe storms possible this evening, Sunday as showers continue through weekend

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

After a stormy Thursday for parts of the region, rain continues today. Temperatures will rise to the mid-70s.

Some storms this evening could be strong to severe, the NWS said, with damaging winds the primary weather threat.

Overnight, expect a chance of showers with isolated thunderstorms after midnight. Lows will be in the lower 60s.

Skies will be mostly cloudy Saturday with a chance of showers with isolated thunderstorms in the morning, then showers likely with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and highs in the upper 70s. Showers continue Saturday night, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight and lows dropping into the 60s.

Showers also are likely Sunday, with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will reach into the low 80s.

Like today, Sunday’s isolated afternoon and evening storms possibly could be strong to severe with damaging wind as the biggest threat.

Overnight Sunday, showers will continue with possible thunderstorms, with chances lessening in the early hours of Monday.

Monday and Tuesday look to be colder, with highs in the upper 60s.
