Tim Hortons locations that have shut down include 5976 Far Hills Ave. at Whipp Road in Washington Twp., 2312 Needmore Road along I-75 in Dayton, 6793 Miller Lane in the Vandalia/Butler Twp. area, and 5798 N. Springboro Pike in Miami Twp. A rented truck was parked at the back entrance of the Needmore Road location today, as disappointed customers drove into the parking lot to find the store shut down. One man said he came to the store to pick up a final paycheck for his daughter-in-law, but no one was available to deliver the check.

Employees at some of the Tim Hortons stores that are open and operating today said they were not aware of any plans to close their stores. They referred questions about the closings to Tim Hortons corporate officials.

This news outlet reached out to Tim Hortons officials and received a two-sentence statement that said, “This closure is part of our normal course of business. Tim Hortons remains committed to growth in all markets, including the U.S.” Requests for additional comment Thursday did not result in an immediate response from Tim Hortons.

Most Dayton-area Tim Hortons locations are operated by franchisee Kava Restaurants LLC, based in Rochester, Michigan. This news outlet also reached out to Kava Restaurants for details of the closings, but there was no immediate response Thursday. The company's web site describes Kava Restaurants as "a large and fast-growing franchise group that operates 75 Tim Hortons and 12 Cold Stone Creamery restaurants across Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana."
This week’s closings are a far cry from the big promises made less than three years ago by the previous Dayton-area Tim Hortons franchisee, AMPEX Brands.
The CEO of Texas-based AMPEX, Tabbassum Mumtaz, told this news outlet in November 2016 that he was planning to open seven to 10 additional Tim Hortons locations in the Miami Valley over the subsequent three years. At that time, Mumtaz said his company was “looking forward to competing with Dunkin’ Donuts” in the Miami Valley.
