Subzero wind chills cause more school closures for Thursday

Several area schools and businesses have already announced delays or closures for Thursday as dangerous temperatures and wind chills remain in the area.

A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for most of the region until 1 p.m. Thursday. For Butler, Warren, and Clinton counties the Wind Chill Warning remain in effect only through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Wind chills reached 40 degrees below zero in spots Wednesday morning and similar conditions are expected Thursday.

School officials have told this news organization that it's a difficult decision to cancel school or dismiss early because of a winter storm. Administrators often want to avoid the complications of early dismissal, when some children are left without immediate transportation.
