Donald Drive will close until Friday to replace a waterline.

The road, from east of Busway Lane to the intersection, will close beginning today/Tuesday until Friday, weather permitting, according to the city of Fairfield. Larry Smith Excavating was awarded in March a $480,000 contract to perform the work.

FAIRFIELD NEWS: Hamilton, Fairfield see biggest June housing sales jumps. Their leaders explain why.

Around 2,000 feet of deteriorating 1960s-era cast iron water main on Donald Drive between Industry Drive and Busway Lane will be replaced that will improve water service and reliability to Crossroads Middle School, The Fairfield Academy, the Fairfield School District’s student health clinic. It will also provide improved access to the mobile home park off Michael Lane.

This project was identified as a priority in the city’s Water Quality and Criticality Analysis report due to the likelihood and consequence of a system failure.

The posted detour around the work will direct eastbound traffic around the construction site via Michael Lane to Ohio 4 (Dixie Highway) to Donald Drive. Westbound Donald Drive traffic will be maintained, if possible.
