Man identified in deadly plane crash in southern Warren County

A pilot was killed in a plane crash late Wednesday night in Warren County has been identified.

Elio Abiakel, 42, of Mason, crashed near the 8800 block of Morrow-Rossburg Road, northeast of Pleasant Plain in Harlan Twp., according to Ohio State Highway Patrol officials.

The plane was a Piper Cherokee Arrow.

Abiakel was the only person on the plane and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was travelling from Oklahoma to an airport in Clermont County, according to OSHP.

Officials said that the crash was to the southwest of the road, and emergency crews needed to use small utility vehicles to get to the site.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Harlan Twp. Fire Department and other area agencies assisted at the crash.

OSHP and the National Transportation Safety Board are continuing to investigate.
