Birk has a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and urban affairs from Wright State University, has graduated from the Criminal Justice Training Academy at Sinclair Community College and graduated with honors from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.
He is enrolled in Certified Executive Law Enforcement Program with the Southern Police Institute with an anticipated January 2021 graduation date.
Middletown City Council will confirm the appointment of Birk at the Dec. 17 council meeting. Birk will hold the Acting Chief position until that time. He will be welcomed by City Council with a formal ceremony on Jan. 7, 2020.
“I am honored to be taking on this role with Middletown Division of Police and look forward to continuing to serve this community,” Birk said in a release. “This is a hard-working department of dedicated men and women and I am excited for the challenges ahead.”
