WEST CHESTER TWP. — Commercial insurance provider Humana will expand its RightSource mail and specialty pharmacy operations.

Two-hundred new jobs will be created at Humana’s three locations now in Greater Cincinnati, mostly West Chester Twp. and Springdale, according to the company.

To expand, Humana has signed a lease in Springdale to consolidate call center and customer service operations, part of Humana’s Pharmacy Solutions business.

By spring of next year, about 200 employees will move to the offices at the Executive Centre office complex on Merchant Street in Springdale and another 450 employees will move there by the end of next year, according to Humana. Employees will move from its facilities in West Chester Twp., 9843 Windisch Road, and East Walnut Hills, and there will be new job opportunities, according to the company.

The employees moved from West Chester Twp. will make room for Humana to expand its mail order pharmacy distribution center in West Chester Twp., said Humana spokesman Jeff Blunt. He said the distribution facility will grow to add more business lines, such as distributing diabetes supplies.

Humana has slightly more than 500 employees in Butler County, Blunt said.

The East Walnut Hills location is Humana’s regional headquarters and customer service operations, and will be able to grow nonpharmacy operations as a result of the moves, Blunt said.

He said Humana’s RightSource division is expanding because a higher percentage of its customers are ordering prescription home delivery and its membership is growing overall.

The company invited U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., to tour RightSource’s West Chester Twp. facility Monday and make remarks to employees.

William Fleming, vice president of Humana Pharmacy Solutions, said the company’s future sources of growth can come from more business lines, more members and more of its members using mail. About 20 percent of Humana’s members use mail order for prescriptions now. He said prescriptions are the most used health benefit by consumers.

“Job creation, I think it’s important for us. We came here because of the job market and favorable regulatory climate on mail order pharmacies,” Fleming said.

West Chester Twp. Administrator Judi Boyko said the township didn’t have enough available Class A office space for Humana to expand its offices locally.

“West Chester is very much in demand, and especially so in the area of Class A office space. With an occupancy rate of 98 percent in our downtown district; the demand exceeds the supply at this time,” Boyko said in a statement.

The occupancy rate downtown increased to 98 percent after GE Aviation signed a lease for new space in July.

Humana, a Louisville, Ky.-based insurance company, signed a lease for 175,000-square-feet in Springdale. It opened in West Chester Twp. in 2008, Blunt said.

RightSource’s facility in West Chester Twp. will dispense approximately 7.5 million prescriptions this year, Fleming said.
