Hamilton Christian Center makes change in leadership

The Hamilton Christian Center has become quite active in the community recently, but has always been a pillar of faith and good deeds under the guidance of the Rev. Johnny Wade Sloan for many years. Now, he’s ready to pass the torch of leadership on to somebody else.

Today, a changing of the guard will happen at the church. The leadership will change, but the face filling the position will be a familiar one, as Sloan will be replaced by Pastor Curtus Moak.

“Serving the past 28 years has been the greatest joy in my life. Now, we are blessed to have a young Pastor with high integrity, love for people, skilled teacher, and the extra plus is his “homegrown roots” in Hamilton,” Sloan said. “I am honored to pass the torch to Pastor Curtus Moak.”

The two pastors have been working hard over the past month to make sure the church has been connecting with the community. When several law enforcement officers were killed across the country, the Christian Center orchestrated a HEROES program, designed to honor those who serve the country.

Moak delivered the message at the program and spoke from the biblical verse in John regarding the greatest sacrifice of being willing to give up one’s own life for a friend.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends,” Moak quoted from scripture.

Recently, when a rash of threats were made against the local city school district, the church arranged to have a special prayer service for students, parents, teachers, and the community.

“We had between 200 and 250 people respond,” Moak said, calling the event a “time for prayer for our schools.”

He is also excited about being able to continue the work of Pastor Sloan, calling it a “transition period,” that will celebrate what has been accomplished with an eye toward the future.
