The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

Crews arrived to find heavy flame coming from the garage area and the homeowner may have tried to put out the fire, Bergman said.

Most of the damage was contained to the garage, but the battalion chief said he wasn’t prepared yet to estimate the dollar loss to the structure and contents.

The residents will have to stay elsewhere tonight, he said.
