Butler County’s two library systems will kick off their summer reading programs in June with the theme “Build a Better World.”

Summer reading programs at both MidPointe Library System and The Lane Libraries start June 1. The two-month programs offers books, prizes and events for all ages, all for free.

MIDPOINTE LIBRARY SYSTEM

The youth program is divided into three age groups: birth through pre-kindergarten; grades kindergarten through five; and grades six through 12. Adults ages 18 and older can complete a bingo board full of reading and library related activities for the opportunity to win prizes.

Starting June 1, visit any MidPointe Library location to pick up a reading log or visit www.MidPointeLibrary.org to track your reading electronically. The program concludes July 31.

MidPointe operates branches in: West Chester Twp., 9363 Centre Pointe Drive; Middletown, 125 S. Broad St.; Monroe, 1 Tennessee Ave.; and Trenton, 200 Edgewood Drive.

THE LANE LIBRARIES

Starting June 1, children can earn 20 points for every 20 minutes of reading through Aug. 1. Complete missions, play games, and read books from recommended reading lists to earn even more points.

Adults can earn 100 points for each book they read. Earn points for the chance to win a prize.

All ages are invited to the Lane Libraries on June 3 for special summer reading programs. Each library location will host a special theme of activities:

  • Mr. Molecule Show: 4 p.m. at Hamilton Lane Library, 300 N. Third St. Learn how science can help people build a better world.
  • Transform Recyclables: 3 to 5 p.m. at Fairfield Lane Library, 1485 Corydale Drive. Transform recyclable materials into an own builder's masterpiece.
  • How-To Fair: 3 to 5 p.m. at Oxford Lane Library, 441 S. Locust St. Learn some new skills, from changing a tire to rolling sushi.
