Warren County health levy passes, Kings school bond issue rejected

The Warren County Health District’s 10-year, 0.5-mill property tax renewal was approved by more than two-thirds of voters, according to unofficial election-night totals.

The health issue passed, 25,026-12,491 or by nearly 66.7 percent of the vote.

The levy is projected to raise about $2.7 million a year for health department services and continue to cost property owners costs $12.46 a year for every $100,000 of property value.

The Kings Local Schools bond issue was defeated, 3,675-3,508, with 51.2 percent of voters casting ballots against the issue.

The 4.96 mill bond issue was to pay for new construction, site acquisition, improvements, renovations and additions to school facilities. It is expected to raise nearly $90 million.

“We are humbled by the support of so many of our parents, businesses, and community members as we navigated the election process. The outcome of this election is disappointing and we know we have some tough discussions and decisions ahead. Our hope is that we can work with our community to find a plan that is amenable to all,” said Tim Ackermann, Kings superintendent, in a press release .

In the race for two seats on the Wayne Local school board, incumbents Danny McCloud and Jim Byers were re-elected.

McCloud carried 29.8 percent of votes, while Byers narrowly defeated challenger Sue Blair by 21 votes and just over 0.5 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. A margin of 0.5 percent or less triggers an automatic recount.

The other challenger, Patrick Cassidy, finished 61 votes behind Blair.

Incumbent Josh Patrick defeated challenger Pat Davidson in the race for a seat on the Wayne Twp. Board of Trustees. Patrick got 72.8 percent of the vote to win re-election.

Elsewhere in Warren County, long-time Hamilton Twp. Trustee Joe Walker lost the seat he held for more than 15 years to Mark Sousa, who pledged to start a series of community events, if elected.

Also, Waynesville has a new mayor, former Councilman Earl Isaacs was elected unopposed. Zachary Gallagher and Connie Miller were elected to the Village Council in Wayneville.
