Warren County government phone system malfunctioning

Warren County government operated for about six hours today without its main phone prefix working.

“We believe the outage has been restored,” Paul Kindell, director of telecommunications for Warren County, said at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Until then, county officials were advising callers used to calling 513-695 to dial 513-925 when calling county offices.

Callers should then dial the same last four digits they did when calling the 695 prefix.

The problem was with Windstream Communications, the county’s phone company, according to Kindell.

“They are still working on it. They don’t know how long it’s going to be,” Kindell said at 12:30 p.m.

Windstream, based in Little Rock, Ark., could not be reached for comment.

Kindell said his office learned of the problem just before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Kindell said this was at least the second time the county had gone for an extended period without the 695 prefix, the main one now used by county offices.

Kindell said Warren County was looking for another provider.

“We’re still investigating that possibility,” he said.
