The old Warren County Jail in Lebanon dates back to 1890.

Warren County is planning to demolish part of the old jail complex in downtown Lebanon.

On Tuesday, the commissioners discussed preserving part, including the sheriff’s office and living quarters, dating to 1890, as a historic building.

The county jail was operated from the facilities on Silver Street in Lebanon until 1975.

The buildings were decommissioned by the county in 2013 and have fallen into disrepair.

County staff is expected to pursue placing the oldest part of the jail and sheriff’s office on Silver Street. An addition added later is to be demolished.

The county is expected to spend about $160,000 on renovations to the roof and buildings, while historic designation is pursued.
