UPDATE @ 1:35 p.m.:
New Miami Schools Superintendent Rhonda Parker said smoke from an electric box forced an early end of the school day Thursday.
The electrical panel produced a significant amount of smoke, she said. Butler County Sheriff dispatchers originally told this news outlet there was a small fire in the building.
“Everyone is safe. Due to a electrical power surge, electric breakers in the main electric panel were blown. There was visibility of smoke coming from the electric panel,” she said.
“Authorities were dispatched. All students were evacuated and dismissed (and) repairs are being made this evening,” Parker said.

New Miami Local Schools evacuated students and dismissed claases early today.
Butler County Sheriff dispatchers told this news outlet there was a small fire in the building, which was reported at approximately 12:30 p.m.
There were no injuries, according to dispatchers.
Parents of New Miami students were being contacted and told the school day is ending early.
New Miami, which is just north of the city of Hamilton and is the smallest school district in the county, has about 900 students in two school buildings in the 600-block of Seven Mile Avenue.
New Miami Schools officials were not immediately respond to requests for information.
