During Monday’s Franklin City Council meeting, City Engineer Barry Conway proposed that the city cover 51 percent of the project costs in order to obtain additional points in the ranking process to obtain the state grants.
The three projects recommended by city staff include:
- Industrial Drive Roadway Improvement Project, a $1.36 million project in which the city's match would be 51 percent, or $700,000. The project would include repairing deteriorated curbs and gutters as well as grinding and repaving the existing roadway.
- Third Street Lift Station Replacement project, a $618,365 project with the city's match 51 percent, or $318,365. This project would replace a 1937 sewage lift station located on South River Street.
- North Dixie Highway Improvement Project, a $734,000 project. The city's 51 percent match would be $374,000. The project would cover the costs to repair failed pavement, and grind and repair North Dixie Highway from Kenneth Koons Drive to the north corporation line.
Councilman Denny Centers asked which of the projects would be the top priority of the three projects proposed. Conway said the Third Street Lift Station would be the project the city would prioritize first.
Conway also said the city could cover all of the costs for the lift station and North Dixie Highway projects but could not cover the Industrial Drive project.
