Family remembers man fatally shot by Butler County sheriff’s deputy

Saying Jacob Faulkner was a beloved son, brother, uncle and Marine veteran, his brother-in-law read a statement this afternoon on behalf of the family.

Kevin Gitner told the media that the information reported in police reports about the fatal shooting involving a Butler County sheriff’s deputy and his brother-in-law were true, but he wanted to also focus on the person Jacob was.

He loved hiking, biking, being outdoors and gardening, Gitner said, reading from a prepared statement.

“He loved his family, his friends, and he loved God,” Gitner said.

Earlier today, Jason Faulkner, Jacob’s brother, told this news outlet that the New Miami graduate had served in the Marines in Afghanistan. He had been back in the U.S. for about six years.

“He seemed OK at first,” Jason Faulkner said of when his brother returned from overseas.

“Probably a couple years ago we noticed a change in his attitude,” Jason Faulkner said.
