Brown’s 10-year-old son ran to a neighbor, who called 9-1-1, just before midnight.
By the time police arrived, Dubose was apparently driving north toward Vandalia, and Brown was dead from a stabbing.
“She was just so loving and caring and sweet,” Brown’s friend Vanisha Johnson said Wednesday. “It’s sad that this happened to her.”
According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, after crashing into the trooper’s cruiser, Dubose, bloody and holding a knife, approached the trooper parked along U.S. 40 writing a ticket for a red-light violation for another vehicle.
After Dubose disregarded the trooper’s verbal commands and lunged at him, the trooper fired once striking him, Lt. Rob Sellers of the Ohio Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
The shooting allegedly occurred in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant, just west of the Interstate 75 interchange on U.S. 40 near Ranch View Drive, in Vandalia.

Dubose was on parole for domestic violence and having weapons under disability in Hamilton County, having been released from prison on Feb. 15, 2016, after serving 6 1/2 months with credit for 519 days in jail, according the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
He was sentenced to two years in prison in the case, his second resulting in a prison term in Ohio, according to state records.

Dubose was previously admitted to state prison on May 15, 2008 for aggravated burglary and violation of a protection order in Hamilton County. Sentenced to four years, with 110 days jail time credit, Dubose was initially released on Dec. 20, 2011, but returned to prison in this case on July 25, 2013 for violating parole. He was released again on March 15, 2014, according to state records.

“We don’t know why he got off there. We don’t know why he rammed the rear of the cruiser,” Sellers said Wednesday in a telephone interview. “Those details may never be known.”
The trooper hit his head and had “a pretty good knot,” but otherwise avoided serious injury, Sellers said.
The trooper, on administrative leave, pending investigation of the incident, would not be identified until the fatal shooting incident is reviewed by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s office, Sellers said.

Dubose and Brown were married on Aug 25, 2016, according to Hamilton County records.
The three-bedroom, one bathroom, home on Murat was near Cabot Drive, where her son ran, shoeless and carrying the home phone.
The neighbor called 911 after the boy was unable to reach his father.
“He was initially there and ran out of the house,” Browder said.
Springfield Twp. police had no prior contact with the new residents.
It was unclear why Dubose headed north or how he ended up in Vandalia.
“We’re still trying to answer all those questions you’re asking,” Browder said Wednesday. “Obviously we can’t talk to him, we can’t talk to her.”
