Trooper in critical condition after colliding with a wrong-way driver
An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper is in critical condition after he collided with a wrong-way driver early Thursday morning on Interstate 71, according to our news partners at WBNS 10TV in Columbus. Video courtesy of WBNS-TV.
Trooper Jason Phillips was responding to reports of an intoxicated driver on the interstate when a vehicle hit his cruiser head-on in the northbound lanes near mile marker 155. The wrong-way driver involved in the crash was the same driver Phillips was dispatched to investigate, according to our news partners at WBNS 10TV in Columbus.
Both vehicles caught fire. Phillips was flown to the Ohio State University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. The wrong-way driver was taken to a hospital in Mansfield with critical injuries.
