Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell dies, band set to play in Columbus Friday

Soundgarden front man Chris Cornell, 52, died Wednesday night in Detroit.

Cornell had been touring with the rock band Soundgarden which is scheduled to perform at the MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus on May 19.

Cornell’s wife and family were shocked his death, according to an Associated Press report.

In a statement to the AP, the family said it would work closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause of death, and asked for privacy.

Soundgarden broke up in 1997, and reunited in 2012. Cornell released several solo albums,  and joined the band Audioslave, which broke up in 2007, according to an AP report.
