Boy hospitalized after struck by foul ball at Indianapolis Indians game

The boy, whose age was not given, was hit when a foul ball flew into the first-base stands during the Indians' game against the Gwinnett Stripers, WTHR reported.

The extent of the boy's injuries were unknown, but he was wheeled out of the park on a gurney and was taken to a hospital, WXIN reported.

The incident occurred several days after a young girl was struck by a foul ball hit by Chicago Cubs center fielder Albert Almora Jr. at Houston's Minute Maid Park.

Almora, visibly shaken, broke down in tears after checking with security personnel between innings. The girl's family has requested privacy, but the child is expected to recover, according to Houston sports radio station KMBE.

Saturday night’s incident renewed calls for more safety measures, including extended netting, at baseball parks.

After Saturday’s game, the Indians released a statement that said onsite medical personnel treated the fan before he was taken to the hospital.

“Tonight a young fan was struck by a foul ball along the first base line,” the team said. “On-site EMT personnel provided treatment at the stadium and the fan was transported to the hospital. We are not able to disclose further details at this time. Our thoughts are with the entire family.”

The Indians extended the netting at Victory Field three years ago, WXIN reported.
