Nightflying: National Guard fighters to train at night in Ohio

Fighter jets from the 180th Fighter Wing will be training at night this week.

The Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing is conducting nighttime training flights until Thursday, weather permitting. Area residents may see or hear F-16 fighter jets taking off and landing until about 9:30 p.m. this week, the wing and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base area advising.

Training flights normally take place during daylight hours, but F-16 pilots and maintenance personnel are required to conduct night operations as part of their overall readiness training.

More than 400 180th airmen were deployed overseas in 2020. The final airmen will return from their deployments in January this year.
