A total of 15 crashes shut down Interstate 70 Friday morning near U.S. 127 in Preble County.

Eastbound and westbound lanes were closed between Arlington Road and U.S. 127, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Tyler Ross confirmed there were 15 crashes, some involving commercial vehicles, in that stretch of highway in Preble County.

A “handful” of people were taken to local hospitals, but Ross said that none suffered serious or life-threatening injuries.

The crashes were believed to be weather-related, Ross said. Snow drifts and snow blowing across the highway caused conditions to worsen after the road was treated.

The earliest crash reported occurred at 10:53 a.m., and the last was reported at 1:05 p.m., dispatchers said.
