Mark Caleb Smith, associate professor of political science at Cedarville, is not surprised Carson is near the top in the polls.

Smith said students at Cedarville are excited about Carson's visit Tuesday.

"Students are thrilled. They are aware and expectant. I think he will find a friendly audience here at Cedarville University."
