Trump also very publicly saluted FBI Director James Comey, saying "it took guts" for him to make this move so close to Election Day.
"He's got to hang tough, because there's a lot of people who want to do the wrong thing," Trump told a crowd in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Back at the White House, the Obama Administration did not raise any questions about Comey's actions, as at the regular briefing, spokesman Josh Earnest said he did not think that Comey was "intentionally trying to influence the outcome of an election."
As for Trump, he fully acknowledged that he had been very disappointed in Comey in recent months, after the FBI and Justice Department had refused to push ahead with charges against Clinton.
"I really disagreed with him; I was not his fan," Trump said. "I'll tell you what - what he did, brought back his reputation."
