A Hollywood season: Madison Mohawks’ march to state football semifinals

The Madison Mohawks football season was movie magical and one of the ages.

Not once since the rural Butler County school system began playing football in 1960 had the team made the playoffs.

But this season, which ended in a close 15-10 defeat in the state semifinal game, not only saw the Madison High School squad make the state playoffs for the first time, but also watched the Mohawk team reel off three straight wins.

Along the way, the team carried the hearts and passions of their fans as they played out their Hollywood underdog story line and cemented their legacy as the most successful football team in the school district’s history.

“We are so incredibly proud of our team, the coaches, our student body and this community,” said A.J. Huff, spokeswoman for the 1,500-student school system.

“We are all walking away with our heads held high and our hearts full after such a successful and historic run. Only 269 days until the first game of the 2018 season,” she said.
