7 things Hamilton residents say they want for city’s future

A crowd of more than 60 filled the cafeteria of Bridgeport Elementary School in Hamilton on Wednesday evening to help chart the course of the city over the next 10 to 15 years.

The meeting was the fourth of five being conducted in various parts of town as part of the Plan Hamilton initiative, the city’s first comprehensive plan effort since the one that was launched in 1998.

Here were the common suggestions from the group:

  • Improve traffic flow and the condition of crumbling streets
  • Bring in more chain restaurants, and an upscale one or two
  • Publicize Hamilton's arts scene to the rest of the region so people visit them, rather than going only to Cincinnati

  • Improve the city's housing, especially for renters
  • More living-wage jobs
  • More transportation options for people without cars
  • Cluster social services near where they are most needed

UPCOMING MEETINGS

  • The final of the Plan Hamilton meetings will be Thursday, Aug. 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Linden Elementary School, 801 Hoadley Ave.
  • A follow-up meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16, tentatively set at Hamilton City Council Chambers, 345 High St., will summarize what people have suggested so far. The location may have be changed to accommodate a large crowd.
