PHOTOS: A dog that has been so special for local readers is getting a retirement party

A golden retriever who has served as a therapy dog for young readers at Fairfield Lane Library for more than a decade is retiring. And, he’s getting his own party.

Hitch’s Retirement Party will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Lane Library. The party is for ages 6-11.

After years of library service and dedication as a therapy dog, it is time for Hitch to take a vacation. Join the library for crafts, treats and games as people offer Hitch best wishes in his retirement.

Registration is required. Call 858-3238, ext. 1321 to register.

The library’s Read to a Therapy Dog program will continue uninterrupted with a new dog.
