'Could we afford swimming pools for kids?'

Regarding the June 14 article about tax money propping up regional golf courses, (with) tax used so that people ... can chase a little white ball. Could we afford swimming pools for the kids? No. Only the kids whose parents can afford the YMCA or New London Swim Club have that luxury. The rest get the Great Miami River. I lived in the 900 block of Cleveland Avenue and watched them dig Wilson swimming pool. The pool was a summer activity for my five children when they were growing up. I was so proud to be from a town that had swimming pools. Now we just have golf courses.

Back in the old west days, citizens fought against guns and saloons because they knew guns and alcohol did not mix. Today, we are going back to 16 percent beer and guns in saloons. We will never learn.

Regarding the 3-year-old child who fell out of the third-story window and the mom wasn’t even around, how many more kids are going to die because their mothers don’t care? These little children can’t care for themselves. They don’t know what to do, when to do it or whatever.
