“The Clean Up is a great collaborative effort between all areas of the city” said Darla Bokeno, Make A Difference Clean Up committee member. “Civic Groups are assisted by the city in cleaning up dump sites and making our city a cleaner more enjoyable place to live. Come out and help your neighbors put a shine on Hamilton.”
Volunteers should dress in comfortable working clothes and shoes — and a yellow or orange T-shirt if you have one.
Cotton gloves and garbage bags will be given to volunteers. Dump trucks will be put in strategic locations.
The designated neighborhood meeting places are:
- Second Ward, S. Second Street at Bailey Square
- Fifth Ward, Crawford Woods School on Hancock Avenue.
- German Village, the Carriage House on Village Street.
- Lindenwald, the Lindenwald Station restaurant on Pleasant Avenue.
- North End, the ball fields on Joe Nuxhall Boulevard.
- Rossville, Partners In Prime on Main Street.
- West Side, Lowe's Home Improvement Center on Main Street and Miami Woods Park on New London Road.
In addition, large group check-in will be at the Government Services Center, 345 High St.

There will also be locations set up from 9 a.m. to noon only for residents to drop off certain hard-to-dispose-of items. Proof of Hamilton residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, will be required, Bokeno said, and no one should drop off items outside of the designated hours and places.
Hazardous waste can be taken the to Miami University Hamilton campus on University Boulevard.
“Residents may bring paints, mineral spirits, varnishes, sealers, all automotive fluids, fluorescent bulbs, batteries of all types, pesticides, mercury containing devices,” Bokeno said.
Residents with tires that need to be disposed of should take them with rims removed to Bailey Square during the same hours. There is a limit of four tires per household, and no commercial or truck tires will be accepted.
Butler County Recycling will offer a waste tire recycling event later this fall, Bokeno said.
Chippers will be located at North End Park and Bailey Square for limited yard waste items that are bundled in four-foot lengths.
Large items such as couches and chairs should not be set out to the curb for pick-up during this event, Bokeno said, but can be put out with regular weekly garbage collection. Call Rumpke at 513-867-8661 to arrange.
Construction waste, such as plaster, roofing, lumber, drywall and fencing, can be taken to the Hamilton Transfer Station, 1000 N. Third St., and disposed of for a fee. Call 513-867-8661 for details.
Bokeno said that residents wishing to dispose of appliances with freon — refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers — should call Butler County Recycling at 1-888-886-9268 to arrange for a free pick-up.
