Emma seems to be the clear top baby name for girls in 2018; for boys, it depends

It appears that Emma is the most popular name for newborn girls in 2018.

However, for newborn boys, it depends on which list you prefer, or trust.

For the second straight year, Emma was the most popular name for newborn girls, according to South Dakota-based Sanford Health, one of the nation's largest health care system.

Emma has been at, or near, the top of the health care system’s list for the past few years. It was ranked first in 2015 and third in 2016.

Oliver topped its list as the most popular name for newborn boys in 2018. The name was not on the health care system’s top five list in 2017. The opposite happened with the name Jackson. Jackson was the system’s most popular name for a baby boy in 2017, however, it did not return to the top five list for 2018.

3. Ava

4. Evelyn

5. Avery

Boys:

1. Oliver

2. Liam

3. Owen

4. Henry

5. Hudson

Now Mom365.com, a parenting resource website for new mothers, has a slightly different order on their lists, and Oliver is not in their top five for boys. Mom365 is also the largest professional newborn photography company, working with hospitals across the country including Mercy Health.
