Miami Middletown hosts 'Get to Know Your Food' lecture

MIDDLETOWN — Miami University Middletown will host “How to Hypnotize a Chicken: Get to Know Your Food” at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17 in the Campus & Community Center. Alan Wight of Gorman Heritage Farm will examine modern food systems and how sustainable agriculture, the consumption of locally grown food and responsible land use can support a healthy society.

Wight will look at locally grown produce and focus on livestock such as chickens. Chickens produce eggs that are fresh, great tasting and nutritious while offering chemical-free bug and weed control, the world’s best fertilizer and are fun, friendly pets with personality.

Participants will have the chance to meet a live chicken.

Gorman Heritage Farm is a local 120-acre working and educational farm, located in Evendale. The Farm is managed by the Gorman Heritage Farm Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
