Prep basketball: Benson’s blocks preserve Hamilton’s win over East

Cameron Benson blocked two Lakota East shots from close range in the last five seconds Friday night as Hamilton held off the visiting Thunderhawks 47-45 in Greater Miami Conference prep boys basketball action at the Hamilton Athletic Center.

D’Marco Howard tallied 20 points and hit the game-winning shot for Big Blue, a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining. Benson and Jaylen Robinson added 10 points apiece, and Benson grabbed seven rebounds.

Jarrett Cox was rejected by Benson on the second-to-last shot of the night as he drove to the basket. Jackson See rebounded and also got blocked.

Cox had 16 points to lead East, which fell to 11-7 overall and 8-4 in the GMC. HHS moved to 10-7, 6-6.

Hamilton will travel to Harrison on Saturday night. The Thunderhawks will host Mason on Tuesday.
