Lakota East’s Horter to represent Team USA

Lakota East’s Dustin Horter will run for Team USA at 2018 Great Edinburgh Cross Country Interntional Challenge in Edinburgh, Scotland next month.

Horter, a two-time Division I state cross country champ, will compete in the junior 6K event. Horter, who will run collegiately at Indiana University, is one of six runners from across the United States to be selected.

The event will consist of four separate races — junior men’s 6K, junior women’s 4K, senior men’s 8K, senior women’s 6K — pitting the best of Team Great Britain and Northern Ireland against Team Europe and Team USA. The overall winning team will be determined by the best aggregate finish of the six best placed athletes in the senior division and the top four placed athletes in the junior division.

The event will take place Jan. 13, 2018 in Holyrood Park in Edinburgh.

In November, Horter won his second straight cross country crown on his 18th birthday, edging Conant Smith of Middletown by 0.8 seconds in a dramatic finish at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. Horter also won a state track title last year in the 1,600-meter run.
