Walmart’s online grocery pickup service comes to Fairfield Twp., Oxford

HOW IT WORKS

A Walmart customer wishing to use the online shopping service first visits www.walmart.com/grocery or checks in via Walmart Grocery mobile app, enters their ZIP code to select a local store, and starts creating their shopping list.

During checkout, the customer can select a time to pick up their order.

Personal shoppers then select the requested produce, meats and other grocery items on the customer’s shopping list.

Customers arriving at a pickup locations go to parking spaces marked in orange, then call a designated number to alert an associate, who then retrieves the prepared order and loads it into the customer’s vehicle.

The largest grocer in the United States launched its online grocery pickup service today at two more Butler County locations.

Walmart’s new service is now available at Walmart Supercenters at 3201 Princeton Road in Fairfield Twp. and 5720 College Corner Pike in Oxford. Walmart also introduced the service at a Florence, Ky. location.

Walmart’s Online Grocery allows customers to order groceries online and pick them up at select Walmart stores without having to leave their vehicles. The grocery pickup service features 30,000 items, including fresh meat, dairy and produce, according to the company.

The minimum order total required for the service is $30 and all items are priced at the same prices found in local Walmart stores, according to spokeswoman Anne Hatfield.

The new service has led to “a lot of unprompted feedback” from customers, including everyone from mothers of small children who no longer have to deal with shopping-trip tantrums to senior residents or people with mobility challenges who no longer have to deal with hauling heavy grocery items, Hatfield said.

“They tell us it’s a life-saver, a game changer,” she said.

Walmart started the service last year in a few markets, then announced a wave of new locations for the service this spring, Hatfield said.

Wednesday’s additions mean there are 12 Walmart Online Grocery Pickup stores in Ohio with the new, free service. It was launched in August at Walmart locations at 8288 Cincinnati Dayton Road in West Chester Twp.; 5303 Bowen Drive in Deerfield Twp.; 4370 Eastgate Square Drive in Cincinnati; and 201 Chamber Drive in Milford.

“We’ve expanded which stores are carrying it throughout the summer and that will continue throughout the year,” she said.

Last summer, Kroger made its online shopping service, called ClickList, available to customers of its Kroger Marketplace store in Liberty Twp.

The location, at 7300 Yankee Road, was the first of Kroger’s 2,640 supermarkets nationwide to test online ordering.
