4 times local teachers found guilty of sex crimes involving students

A Fairfield High School teacher was sentenced to jail this week for a sex crime involving a student.

Here are four cases of local teachers found guilty of sex crimes involving students:

1. Mason gym teacher had sex with football players, gave them alcohol

Stacy Schuler, the former physical education teacher at Mason High School, was found guilty in 2010 of supplying five students with alcohol and having sex with them on multiple occasions in her Springboro home.

The five young men gave graphic, detailed accounts of the exploits at Schuler’s home. One said sex with Schuler was initiated on a kitchen counter and two others talked about sex they had with Schuler in her shower. Several said they had repeated group sex with Schuler in her bed.

Schuler served a little more than one year on her four-year sentence on 16 felony counts of sexual battery.

After a four-day bench trial where five former students — most of them football players — testified, the judge said Schuler would be eligible for release after six months.

2. New Miami teacher told victims to erase social media, cellphone contacts with him

Justin Madden entered guilty pleas in Butler County Common Pleas Court in February 2015 to four felony charges involving two teenage girls, who were students where he was a teacher.

In the spring of 2014, the former New Miami High School teacher had sex with an 18-year-old student at his Trenton home, sent sexually explicit messages to a 16-year-old girl, and hampered the investigation by telling the victims to erase social media and cellphone contacts with him, according to prosecutors.

Madden was sentenced in April 2015 to 93 months in prison, minus 85 days served.

3. Jail, probation for Mason High School’s former band director

The former band director for one of the region’s most acclaimed high school marching band programs was sentenced to jail in 2016.

Mason High School's former band leader Robert Bass was sentenced to six months in the Greene County Jail and five years of probation in December 2016 after pleading guilty to sexual battery charges against a 17-year-old female band student at Fairborn High School in 1996.

4. Fairfield teacher gets maximum sentence for sex crime with student

Tyler Conrad, 27, was convicted last month of sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a first-degree misdemeanor.

This week, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail for the sexual imposition charge and 180 days for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both the maximum. The 60-day sentence will run concurrent with the 180-day sentence for a total of 180 days in the Butler County Jail. He has been in jail since June 2 and will receive credit for time served.

Judge Keith Spaeth also declared Conrad a Tier I Sex Offender, requiring him to register his residence for 15 years.

A 16-year-old testified that Conrad’s attention began with rubbing her shoulders and touching her leg while in his classroom then later he touched her private area on the outside of her clothing and on another occasion making penetration.

The student also said Conrad picked her up in the summer of 2016 and took her to a Ross Twp. house where he began kissing her and carried her to a bedroom. When he touched her on the outside of her private area, she said she became uncomfortable and he stopped.

The Fairfield City School District has said it is moving forward in firing Conrad. Conrad has requested a hearing before a state-appointed referee over his termination.
