1. Began in 1909. The annual tradition began in 1909 when Pennsylvania Rep. John Tener, a former professional baseball player, organized a bipartisan game.
2. For charity. The baseball game has turned into a fundraising event and has contributed to charities including The Washington Literary cent, The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington and the Washington National Dream Foundation.
3. Winning streak broken. In 2016, the Republicans broke the Democrats' seven-year winning streak with a walk-off, 8-7 win.
