Residents raising funds to stop golf course development

A group of Deerfield Twp. residents opposing the proposed development of the former Kingswood Golf Course will hold a “yoga for healing” fundraiser this weekend.

Tara Scarborough is leading the donation-based class “for healing of the land and yourself” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the park located off Irwin Simpson Road.

All donations will go to the Keep Kingswood Park fund for legal fees, environmental support and design work.

Those attending should dress for the weather and bring a mat or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the group will do a meditative prayer walk; or if there is extreme weather, the event will be rescheduled.

The Keep Kingswood Park organization opposes the proposed future development of the township-owned land. It is raising funds to engage Pittsburgh-based Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services to assist them.

Construction crews are now clearing trees at the former golf course as part of the extension of Innovation Way between Duke Boulevard and Socialville-Foster Road.
