A several-block area of Pleasant Avenue in the Second Ward and Lindenwald area will be closed to through traffic starting 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, until 6 a.m. Monday, July 10.

The closure is needed so work crews can relocate a 12-inch water main across Pleasant Avenue for the South Hamilton Crossing project. Access to residential and commercial driveways within the area will be maintained.

Through traffic will be detoured onto Laurel Avenue, Ohio 4 (Erie Boulevard) and Ohio 129 (High Street), with detour routes posted.

The South Hamilton Crossing project’s main feature is an overpass above railroad tracks at Central Avenue that will eliminate a street-level railroad crossing that has been sought more than a century. The project will extend Grand Boulevard west to University Boulevard. It will improve safety, improve street connections between Ohio 4 and Hamilton’s West Side, and also will foster development in the area of Miami University’s Hamilton Campus and the nearby Vora Technology Park.

Hamilton City Council plans to officially name the South Hamilton Crossing for local historian Jim Blount at its July 12 meeting.
