Watch out for other drivers

Drivers tend to complain about semis, but guess what? According to a stats-based story in Thursday’s newspaper by staff writer Thomas Gnau, far more crashes are caused by car drivers, though the amount of trucks on the road also plays a big part in safety. One problem is how car drivers react to semi-trucks — often, not smartly.

Reader Thomas Subler reacted, “Motorists increasingly take dangerous chances when driving near, in front of or even close behind these up to 80,000-pound behemoths.

“Stay clear of unmarked or poorly marked semis. They may be operated by drivers who can’t or don’t want to work for a large company where safety is always No. 1. I spent over 50 years in the industry, including the first seven as a driver, the final 45 in safety and sales, for two of the most safety conscious companies in America. Don’t bet you or your loved ones’ lives in order to save a few seconds enroute to your destination.”
