The Dayton area recorded its ninth officer involved shooting early today.

Just midnight Wednesday a Miami Twp. police officer fatally shot a man who officers believed was holding a gun. The man, who was later identified as Robert Edwards, 33, was standing at the entrance of Oakwood Village mobile home park and holding what later was determined to be a pellet gun.

The officers ordered him to drop the weapon multiple times , but he refused, and an officer subsequently opened fire, said Capt. John Magill, operations officer for Miami Twp. police.

The incident marks the ninth officer involved shooting this year in the Dayton area and the seventh that resulted in the death of a suspect, according to this news organization’s database of officer-involved shootings.
