Man with loaded gun in Middletown UDF planned robbery, police say

A Middletown man was found with a loaded gun inside the United Dairy Farmers, 101 N. Verity Parkway, and police said he may have had plans to rob the store.

Adam Johnson, 25, was charged with CCW/loaded and petty theft, police said.

Police were called to the store Monday morning on a report that a man who shoplifted from UDF the previous night had returned. While talking with Johnson, police noticed a bulge in the front pocket of his hoodie, the report said. Johnson’s gun was grabbed by police and he was pushed up against the ice cream counter, police said.

More officers were called to the store and they found in the 9 mm gun, one round in the chamber, six rounds in the magazine, and the gun on “fire,” police said. Police believed Johnson was there to rob the store, the report said.

A woman standing next to Johnson told police she didn’t know him. Police checked Amber Burgess, 29, of Franklin, and found she had a bench warrant through Middletown Municipal Court.

While Burgess was being booked into Middletown City Jail, police located 29 blue pills that were identified as Klonopin in her purse. She was also charged with drug abuse.
