This week is proof that Ohio can experience bitter cold temperatures. Extra layers of clothing and blankets can keep you warm enough if you are left stranded waiting for help or for a storm to pass. Non-perishable food and water can help regulate your body's normal functions so it can focus on fighting the cold. A retractable shovel and grips for your shoes can be used if you get stuck in the snow. For the slushy and salty roads, make sure you have extra windshield wiper fluid. In case of a dead battery, keep jumper cables or a battery booster in your car.
Any time of year it is also helpful to have a first aid kit in the car.
