Sorg Opera House to host open house Sunday in Middletown

The Sorg Opera Revitalization Group (SORG) will host an open house fundraising event of the historic theater this weekend.

The open house fundraiser will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The event will offer a view of the rehabilitated box seats, repaired public restrooms, re-hung house curtains, the full second balcony that was formerly obscured by a drop ceiling, and the completed installation of donated seats from Cincinnati Music Hall. The Sorg’s commercial building, featuring its ballroom, will also be open for tours.

“For an all-volunteer non-profit group we have had a great year,” said Chuck Miller, SORG’s president. “The donation of 800-plus Cincinnati Music Hall seats was a real game changer.”

Miller said the Sorg Opera House is very close to opening its doors to benefit concerts under temporary occupancy permits.

The Sunday open house will feature the sale of gently used movie theater seats, in three styles, for a donation of $10 a pair. The seats came from a movie theater in Northern Kentucky and are in three pieces for easy transport.

SORG also has a limited supply of Cincinnati Music Hall seat pairs available for a suggested $100 donation.

All proceeds will be reinvested in the capital restoration of the Sorg Theater leading to code compliance and eventual productions.
