New local show ‘Wake Up West Chester’ coming to TV

They met while he was serving her family dinner at Dewey’s Pizza in West Chester Twp., now the pair are co-hosting a new talk show called “Wake Up West Chester” every other Sunday beginning next month.

Wendy McClendon and Nate Harris will be hosting a live television talk show from the community room at the West Chester MidPointe Library. They plan to run all sorts of interesting, public service and fun stories not only about the township but beyond.

“There is so much here that people don’t know about,” McClendon said.

McClendon has been wanting to produce a TV show for a long time and this vehicle will help her feed her other passion which is helping people.

Their first show will be a practice run where audience members — they can fit about 100 people — can meet the crew and also view a screening of the local drama QWJ. Their first official episode will air on April 10 and will feature common scams. Their guests include someone from the FBI and Britt Scearce of Emery Federal Credit Union.

Service Animals, featuring Circle Tails and the Battle Buddy Foundation are next on the schedule for April 24. Hoarders and storage problems will air the first of May. They have invited Reach Out Lakota and IKEA for that program.

“There’s a little of psyche why some people are hoarders and there are some people who just love clutter,” McClendon said. “We’re going to talk about what you do with it. You can either donate it to get rid of it and Reach Out Lakota is a great way to get rid of it, and also give back to the community. And then IKEA is the way if you want to keep it, just organize it.”

The show starts at 3 p.m. every other other Sunday for the rest of the year. West Chester Twp. Spokewoman Barb Wilson said she can't say for certain what time the program will air on their public access channel. Time Warner customers with a converter box can find it on channel 4 and TVs equipped with QAM — most made after 2008 have this — can find the program on channel 5.11. The channel schedule can be found at www.westchesteroh.org.

The pair said they will also have show and related documents on their Facebook page, which can be found at wakeupwestchester.com soon and people can find it on YouTube.

There are multiple ways to see us,” Harris said.

McClendon is a technical buyer for Bosch Automotive and Harris is a server and bartender at Deweys where they met. They said they got to talking while he was waiting on her table, they just sort of clicked and “the rest is history.”

“I was like I need a co-host, I need someone who is not like me,” McClendon said. “I just feel we have the chemistry, not a chemistry, chemistry but a friend chemistry.”

“We hit off,” Harris agreed.
