Lightning starts fire, causes $40K in damages

A lightning strike is being blamed for a fire Friday night that did $40,000 in damages to a house in the 800 block of Prytania Avenue, according to the Hamilton fire department.

When firefighters arrived around 5:30 p.m., they found heavy smoke coming from gables and fire to the rear of the structure. Crews battled flames while initiating an attack accessing the second-floor through the rear window. The attic fire was quickly knocked down, halting its spread into the living space, firefighters said.
